August 2016 - December 2016
Halfway through August 2016 I got the chance to rent a shelf for my products, at Poush in Wassenaar. This was great timing as my pop-up shop was going to close at the end of August. The only thing I needed to do, was to provide a good assortment of products and to make sure there was enough stock - they would do the rest! I didn't need to be in the shop myself, so I got the chance to show (and sell!) my products in more than one place.
I eventually stayed there until the end of the year and it was a great learning experience for me. I would love to see more of these kind of (good quality) shops in the Netherlands, where you can rent a shelf and have your products in more than one place (at the same time). It increases your audience en thus your market research - you know better what sells where and to whom. It still might not be your own shop, but at least it is a step in the right direction!
July 2016 - August 2016
In the summer of 2016, right after the start of Paper & Twine, I got the chance to open a pop-up shop in Leiden. It would be one of many pop-up shops in the former V&D department store building in the city centre. This was a great opportunity to show my newly purchased products to customers in real life and to see how it worked as a "real" shop, as opposed to just a webshop. It was hard work (the pop-up was open 7 days a week and I did it alone), but it was great fun. Unfortunately it was over after 2 months, but I still hope for and am working towards my own brick-and-mortar shop. That's my dream!
